VegNews Sept/Oct 2009 Cover

The most recent VegNews (September/October 2009) issue just reviewed Sarma’s  book, Living Raw Food! We have posted the actual article below (which is a little hard to read) so out of concern for your eyes, we have included Sarma’s portion of the review below:

… “Melngailis’s Living Raw Food, by comparison, expands the recipe-book boundaries even further into unchartered and uncooked territory. In a word, her book is stunning.  Its joyful and humorous–as much a food manual or lifestyle guide as cookbook. Fun to read, its filled with far more than recipes, including many biographical tidbits of its author interspersed with educational essays on everything from (endangered raw) almonds to (biodynamic) wine. Like Entertaining [in the Raw], Living [Raw Food] makes ample use of photography, of both beautiful food and beautiful people, intended surely as testament to the “glow” raw fooders are fond of touting.  As for the recipes, the secret is prep time. Give yourself enough and you cant go wrong. Whether you fancy King Oyster Mushroom Calamari and Sesame Mixed Vegetable Noodles with Herbs, or Key Lime Pie Shake with your very own Nectarine Cherry Timbale, prepare your tastebuds for an experience you will not soon forget. Who knows, you might even get the glow.” – Sept/Oct 2009 Veg News

Sarma and Pure Food and Wine on WCBS News!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Check out this video – Sarma and Pure Food and Wine on WCBS News last night!

There is also an article on their website, “Raw Food Diet The Latest Craze In Healthy Eating” with a video player in the upper right corner to watch the news segment.

Thanks WCBS for helping to spread the word on how healthy it is to incorporate more raw foods into  your lifestyle! Although the doctor claims their are “imperfections” in the diet… to each their own!!  Nobody is claiming to be perfect, and as Sarma says, eating raw food is not an all or nothing diet.  The truth is, at the end of the day, if you just try to eat more raw foods, the better you feel (at least in our experience).

See for yourself and let us know what you think!!

Coconut Oil – Not Just for Cooking!

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Great Tip in the July 2009 of SELF Magazine about Coconut Oil:

SELF Magazine, July 2009

SELF Magazine, July 2009

“Virgin Coconut Oil contains the same fatty acids as those in your skin so it replaces moiture on your body better than olive oil or other hydrators do” – SELF, July 2009, “Beauty Flash”, pg 62

Virgin Oil De Coco-Creme (Coconut Oil/Butter)

Virgin Oil De Coco-Creme (Coconut Oil/Butter)

We have always loved using coconut oil outside of the kitchen and on our skin after a day in the sun, or after we shave, or sometimes even to shave with :) At One Lucky Duck we carry   Virgin Oil De Coco-Creme, a  completely RAW coconut oil with a tasty, mild coconut flavor that is ideal for whipping up dessert, as well as moisturizing with!

Chewy Almond Crunch Bar is voted as one of the TOP 5 ENERY BARS!!

Friday, July 10th, 2009

The Sierra Club named One Lucky Duck’s Chewy Almond Crunch Bar as one of the TOP 5 ENERGY BARS!

Chewy Almond Crunch Bar

Chewy Almond Crunch Bar

The competition was between 25 energy bars all made by companies who work to preserve the environment…

AND WE PLACED #3!

We LOVE our Chewy Almond Crunch Bar, and we are glad they did too!  Check out some of what they had to say about us:

…..”The “hearty” bar is “well executed” and has “a nice collection of nuts, seeds, honey, and oats accented with raisins,” with “just the right amount of moisture, chewiness, and sweetness.” “This could be served as a dessert at a nice restaurant,” one taster opined”….Check out the entire article and results HERE

This snack such a better option than those other bars out there filled with unknown and/or scary processed ingredients…what sounds better to you almonds and pumpkin seeds or soy protein isolate and rice starch? (We’ll always go for the almonds and pumpkin seeds, but whatever floats your boat)….

Honey Bunches of Grawnola Bar

Honey Bunches of Grawnola Bar

Ok, we admit it….we already knew these bars were crowd pleasers! In our experience everyone from kids to husbands to boyfriends to junk-food eaters and soda drinkers to health food lovers and raw foodies are all fans of the Chewy Almond Crunch Bar (along with our new Honey Bunches of Grawnola Bar, which came out after the Sierra Club did their test, or else we are sure it would have placed) once they give it a try.

Happy Snacking!
