Everything your pet needs for the ultimate healthy and organic lifestyle!

Ever since Sarma adopted her rescue pit bull Leon, she’s been sourcing more and more pet products that she loves. We’ve always offered pet items, but now that we’re adding much more, we’ve moved to devote a whole section to our furry friends. Stay tuned as we’ll keep adding new products from the best of what’s out there to keep your animals as healthy and happy as you are.

What inspired this section? Everyone wants their own sweet kitty or puppy to thrive and live a long healthy life. However, all you need to do is turn over the package of any commercial brand of pet food to see that pet food manufacturers do not share your intentions. In her book, Living Raw Food, Sarma writes about the horrors of the ingredients found in many mainstream pet foods:

“Made from slaughterhouse waste and grain by-products that are considered unfit for human consumption, most commercial pet food is worse than the nastiest junk food available. Ever heard of the process of rendering? This is what happens to carcasses of dead animals (including horses, zoo animals, and abandoned pets from the pound that have died or been euthanized, along with roadkill and assorted unusable parts of livestock such as heads and hooves, much of it already decaying)…This is the “meal” or “bone meal” listed on the label and is what the manufacturers point to as the source of protein.”

Furthermore, she was recently disturbed to read the label of a very popular dog food advertised on TV where the first two ingredients listed were “corn” and “soybean meal” , then meat “meal” and then farther in the list of mostly unfamiliar sounding ingredients, she saw “wheat meal”, the dreaded “high-fructose corn syrup” as well as chemical food colorings! This is not healthy for your puppy! (more…)

One Lucky Duck.com got a face-lift!!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

So, you have probably noticed that something looks different – well we’re not going to hide the fact that we’ve had some work done…okay a TON of work done! We have a new homepage loaded with links to informative, inspiring, funny, miscellaneous, and at times, somewhat random (yet hopefully entertaining) content along with recipes and newsletters. In addition to all this new content for you to peruse, we have redone some old staples such as my account, and customer service. We’re just getting started so it will keep growing!

Why did we do it?

1.    It was time to bring the whole One Lucky Duck family under one roof! For too long Pure Food and Wine, One Lucky Duck.com, One Lucky Duck Juice and Take-Away, and Sarma’s blog all existed in separate realms.
2.    We have a lot of information that we want to share with you ? And our newly launched website is exactly how we intend on doing it!

The Tour Highlights

1st Stop: Sarma’s Blog

So you may have come across Sarma’s posts on We Like it Raw or her articles in Get Fresh Magazine, but trust us…she has a lot more to say, which is why she needs her own blog.
Check it out, you can’t miss the link from our new homepage!

2nd Stop: Duck News

If you are reading this, you found it!! Perhaps you were intrigued by our newsworthy tickertape on the new homepage, or maybe you found it some other way…but to clarify, this is where you will find all the latest One Lucky Duck and Pure Food and Wine news – everything from new snacks and special events to the cool things our staff is up to in the Big Apple to international “Duck Sightings” (you’ll see).…Stay tuned!

3rd Stop: The Vault

While not as scary or as serious as it sounds, it is as all encompassing, hence the name.  Here you can find articles on health and nutrition that we think are worthy of reading, all the press coverage we have ever gotten in every media, recipes from some of our favorite raw food cook books (including our own)!

The coolest thing about it is that we have built a Beta site, which means we are going to keep the changes and cool updates coming, so we have given you a heads up, this is the first yet biggest face-lift of many smaller make-overs to be done.

Let us know what you think!
