This is really sad. I’m happy You wrote this post, and You give more energy to work on making things better through the food question. I’m hungarian, and in Hungary it is also a very difficult topic. The lack of information, or let’s face it: the power of media which provides unbelievable information to people is harmful. But I believe there is a way to change things and reach more and more families with The information and The knowledge.
I wish You a very successful and healthy New Year!

Thank you Sarma, bless you! As I defend animals and their rights almost every day and night, people (even rawfoodists...!) don't understand that I can spend to much time to help the poorest on this earth. Happy to know that you like animals and try to help them. Thank you in their name. Sunshine & love to you, Anne-Marie

Smiled thru your whole story.Congrats on becoming a dogmom. I too rescued a pit bull at 8 years old. He is now 11. He is the love of my life! If you reply to me with a direct email I will send you photos.
I am attaching a poem called I am an animal resuer.

I am an animal rescuer.
My job is to assist God's creatures. …
I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs.
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning or selection.
I have bought dog food with my last dime.
... I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand.
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.
I have fallen in love a thousand times.
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count.
I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends.
I don't often use the word "pet".
I notice those lost on the road side and my heart aches.
I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture.
I know of no creature unworthy of my time.
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven,
but I believe there are.
Why would God make something so perfect
and leave it behind?
Some may think we are masters of the animals,
but the animals have mastered themselves. ..
something people still haven't learned.

War and abuse make me hurt for the world,
but a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind.
We are a quiet but determined army and we are making a difference every day.
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan,
nothing more rewarding than saving a life,
no higher recognition than watching them thrive.
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play who, only days ago, was too weak to eat.
By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue,
I have been rescued.
I know what true unconditional love really is,
for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many, grateful for so little.

I am an Animal Rescuer.
My work is never done.
My home is never quiet.
My wallet is always empty,
but my heart is always full.

Love to you and Leon.

LOVE your story about Leon! He's beautiful! And I really appreciate all the info you put into your post. Haven't had a pet in a while; unless you include my cousins' dogs Brooklyn (a pit) - love her to death! She's always licking my face and neck which I like, excluding the thick drool, and Champagne (a toy dog, not sure what breed) - he's always sniffing around BK but she's looks at him like "little man, please! you don't have enough for me!" LOL

Growing up we always had a dog or cat, usually found them as a kitten or pup and raised them up. When we couldn't raise them ourselves my mom always took them to Northshore Animal League so they wouldn't be killed. Animals are always loving and true to their natures. I hate when I see people do cruel things to animals, particularly dogs, to make them mean. I say, if you love a dog and treat it right it will defend you to the death, so you don't have to be cruel to it. Anyway, love the stories!

Love to see Leon in person!

Your Leon is beautiful. The reason people say "Oh, a red nosed Pit" is because Am-Staff's do not have red noses. That is only a gene of the Pit Bull. The below was taken from a Pit Bull Rescue site.
Red (or “Dudley”) noses are considered a fault for American Staffordshire Terriers, according to the AKC’s breed standard, and this physical trait has been bred out of most AST lines. Red-nosed dogs are common in APBT lines. This may help you differentiate between the breeds. If the dog has a red nose, it is more likely to be of APBT than of AST lineage.
Be proud that you have a great ambassador for the Pit Bull breed. Don't hide Leon behind a facade.

Great article. I was considering going completely 'raw' after looking into the facts. However I decided against 100% 'raw' as I believe some foods need to be cooked to get the complete health benefits, i.e tomatoes as you absorb more lycopene (a powerful antioxidant) from them once cooked.

In the end I decided to follow a more Mediterranean style diet. It gives me the health benefits of a raw food diet, without a 'total' conversion.
