I have bought dog food with my last dime. ... I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand. I have hugged someone vicious and afraid. I have fallen in love a thousand times. And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count. I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends. I don't often use the word "pet". I notice those lost on the road side and my heart aches. I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture. I know of no creature unworthy of my time. I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven, but I believe there are. Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind? Some may think we are masters of the animals, but the animals have mastered themselves. .. something people still haven't learned. He's beautiful! And I really appreciate all the info you put into your post. Haven't had a pet in a while; unless you include my cousins' dogs Brooklyn (a pit) - love her to death! She's always licking my face and neck which I like, excluding the thick drool, and Champagne (a toy dog, not sure what breed) - he's always sniffing around BK but she's looks at him like "little man, please! you don't have enough for me!" LOL Growing up we always had a dog or cat, usually found them as a kitten or pup and raised them up. When we couldn't raise them ourselves my mom always took them to Northshore Animal League so they wouldn't be killed. Animals are always loving and true to their natures. I hate when I see people do cruel things to animals, particularly dogs, to make them mean. However I decided against 100% 'raw' as I believe some foods need to be cooked to get the complete health benefits, i.e tomatoes as you absorb more lycopene (a powerful antioxidant) from them once cooked. In the end I decided to follow a more Mediterranean style diet. It gives me the health benefits of a raw food diet, without a 'total' conversion. Great article.
